The Right Valve for HPLC, UHPLC and FPLC

Valves are ubiquitous in all HPLC and UHPLC applications. They act like a switch and can control the flow path of the chromatography system in various ways. In many cases, a 2-position or a multiposition valve is the right choice. Whenever their function reaches its limits, an intelligent solution must be developed. The design of KNAUER´s special position valves is customized to an application. At the moment, we offer special position valves for multi-injection modes or column selection and reverse flow with only one valve.
KNAUER valves are designed for a wide range of chromatographic and dosing applications. Flexibility is provided by choice of different materials and sizes as well as drivers for various software packages. Valves are driven either manually or automatically through a valve drive.

Applications for Special Position Valves
Whenever a 2-position or a multiposition valve is not enough
Column selection and reverse flow with a special position valve
A great option for column switching is the installation of a specialized column switching valve. The great advantage is that only one valve drive VU 4.1 must be used. This valve is made for FPLC applications up to 200 bar.
Functional principle:
Up to 7 columns can be installed in total. Column 1 is installed between ports 1A and 1B, column 2 between port 2A and 2B and so on. This valve can be switched to 15 positions. Position 1A-1B directs the flow on column 1 in "normal" flow direction. Position 1B-1A directs the flow on column 1 in "reverse" flow direction. The same is true for all other column positions 2 - 7. Position "Bypass" connects valve in- and outlet and no column is flushed.
Several injection tasks with one device: Multi-injection valve
The multifunctional injection valve allows several ways to inject a sample without the need to change the system configuration. The sample loop is either filled manually by syringe or automatically via a sample pump. By switching the valve the sample is then injected by the system pump. As an additional option, the sample can also be injected directly to the column via the sample pump.
Functional principle:
Position 1: Manual Load & column equilibration
The sample loop is manually filled via a syringe and the column is equilibrated via the system pump.
Position 2: Sample Injection
The flow of the system pump is directed through the loop and sample is injected onto the column. Additionally, the flow of the sample pump is directed to Waste 2.
Position 3: Direct Injection
The sample is loaded directly onto the column via the sample pump. Additionally, the flow of the system pump is directed to Waste 1.
Position 4: Automatic Load & column equilibration
The sample loop is automatically filled via the sample pump and the column is equilibrated via the system pump.
