KNAUER finalist at German renowned award for medium-sized businesses 2018

On Saturday, the 8th of September 2018, the awards gala of the "Großer Preis des Mittelstandes 2018" took place in the "International Congress Center" of the Dresden Maritim Hotel. The Berlin-based laboratory instrument manufacturer KNAUER Wissenschaftliche Geräte GmbH was selected as a finalist for the region Berlin / Brandenburg in the competition with 4917 nominated small and medium-sized enterprises throughout Germany.

The prestigious competition for medium-sized businesses was carried out by the Oskar Patzelt Foundation in Leipzig for the 24th time this year. This award without prize money is all about the recognition of the outstanding achievements, especially medium-sized companies accomplish for the German economy and society. Often, these companies are little-known beyond the region, and their contribution to tax revenue, as measured by company size, is often higher than that of well-known multinationals. As a rule, SMEs are connected to the location on a long-term basis and thus provide the municipalities with reliable income and stability.

More than 400 entrepreneurs and numerous invited guests closely followed the award ceremony in Dresden. Prizes where handed over by the board of directors of the Oskar Patzelt Foundation, Dr. Helfried Schmidt and Petra Tröger.

Among other things, the laudation to the company KNAUER states: KNAUER specializes in the manufacture and worldwide distribution of laboratory measuring instruments in the life science industry. The company celebrates success thanks to individual, customized solutions that set the company apart from the competition. ... Numerous awards underline the quality of the products. ... For many years, the company has partnered with companies and institutions, including universities, federal agencies, suppliers and retailers around the world. ... In 2017, KNAUER joined the "Diversity Charter", living equality and family friendliness as important principles. ... KNAUER nominated for the 11th time since 2008 for the "Großer Preis des Mittelstandes".

"We are very happy about this great appreciation. Even if we were not chosen as the winner, we are very proud finalists and are happy to be among the top four, " said managing director Alexandra Knauer.

In order to qualify in the competition, the nominated companies had to undergo an extensive selection process in which many parameters of the companies were audited. In addition to healthy business data, this included, among other things, the degree of innovation, stability of values, cooperation with educational institutions, commitment in the region and the social role of the company.

Patron for Berlin, Governing Mayor Michael Müller expressed his thanks to the Oskar Patzelt Foundation and his recognition for the achievements of the SMEs by saying: "The ‘Grand Prize of Medium-sized Businesses’ for 24 years has been a desirable award for economic know-how, entrepreneurial responsibility and innovative spirit."

The family-owned company KNAUER Wissenschaftliche Geräte GmbH has been developing measuring instruments for research and science for 55 years. The liquid chromatography (HPLC) systems are used for example for testing food or environmental samples on ingredients and impurities or to check the quality of pharmaceuticals. The separation process can also be used for the isolation of natural or active ingredients, that require with very high purity in the final product. The osmometers are used in universities and hospitals. Alexandra Knauer leads the company in the second generation.
